Goodwill Protest in Louisville Kentucky 8-25-12
Hello,
The NFB of Greater Louisville has planned an informational protest in front of the Goodwill store located at 909 East Broadway. The protest will take place on Saturday August 25, 2012 from 11am till 1pm.
Our purpose is to promote public awareness of the unfair, discriminatory, and immoral practice of paying subminimum wages to workers with disabilities. Goodwill is a household name, but most households do not realize that Goodwill is one of the many employers that pay less than the federal minimum wage to their workers with
disabilities.
All we need is you and your voice! We will provide signs and the informative hand-outs. Once again, this an informational and peaceful protest of Goodwill Industries. If you have any questions, please call Sandra Williams, President NFB of Greater Louisville at, 502-495-7130.
Please help us spread the word!
Thank you!

I'm wondering if any has tried to sit down with Goodwill and discuss this issue before protesting. Goodwill does much for the community and to hurt the organization in this time of high unemployment is akin to throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Also, it is important to note, that regional Goodwills are run independently. Some states. like Arizona, pay minimum wage to persons with disabilities. It would seem to make more sense to pursue changing the law that allows sum-minimum wages than an organization, that overall does so much for the community.
ReplyDeleteWhat is weird is goodwill pays better then minimum wage for every single employee! Where do people get this kind of crazy information!!!
