Summary of Responsibilities

and communicating using today’s computer-based
products alongside their peers. De Witt &

The JKTC is a residential training center
operated by the NJ Commission for the Blind and
Visually Impaired (CBVI), where people who are
blind and visually impaired learn the vocational
and life skills necessary to seek future
employment or education and job training that
will prepare them for employment. In addition to
becoming computer proficient, these skills
include activities of daily living, Braille and
other communications skills, orientation and
mobility and vocational counseling in a supportive environment.
Under contract with the CBVI, De Witt &
Associates runs the computer training component,
where basic keyboarding, Windows Concepts,
Internet and MS Office skills are taught as an
integral part of the JKTC’s 16-week training
program. We also teach a 4-week program called
Bridge that provides students with intermediate
level Internet, Windows, and MS Office skills.
The Supervisor of Technology Training is responsible for:
· Assuring that the technology training
of JKTC clients is effective in both one-on-one
and group settings, thereby empowering them to
compete successfully in job training environments, or employment settings.
· Managing a staff of 4 technology
instructors to ensure that the computer training
component is a well integrated part of the JKTC’s program.
Job Duties
· Supervising and participating as
necessary in the assessing of incoming students’
computer skills, and their need for appropriate
screen reading or magnification software.
· Teaching keyboarding using talking typing tutorial programs.
· Teaching basic and intermediate level
MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Windows 7, and Internet
Explorer skills using JAWS or ZoomText.
· Assuring that there are appropriate
lesson plans to be used in such training.
Writing clear and thorough reports on the students’ progress.
Performing first level troubleshooting
on computers in the training rooms and student residences.
· Performing first line supervisory
duties with a staff of 4 instructors, satisfying
the needs of both JKTC management, the customer,
and De Witt & Associates’ management, the employer.
Job Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
· At least two years' experience as a teacher/trainer/instructor.
· At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
· At least 1 year working with blind and visually impaired adults.
· In-depth knowledge of assistive
technology for people who are blind or visually
impaired, especially JAWS and ZoomText.
· In-depth knowledge of MS Office 2007 or
higher, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
· In-depth knowledge of surfing the
Internet with Internet Explorer using JAWS or ZoomText.
· Knowledge of Windows 7.
· An interest in and ability to be
trained in new technologies, and the passion to
impart this knowledge to others.
· The ability to work well as a member of a collegial team.
· A personality that is patient and
encouraging, but willing to hold our clients
accountable for achieving their agreed-upon objectives.
